AN annual coffee morning is set to return next week in aid of a local cancer charity.
Jersey’s Greatest Coffee Morning, organised by and in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey, will take place next Friday 25 September.
The fundraiser is sponsored by IQ-EQ and invites Islanders, schools, families, community groups and sports clubs to come together in aid of Macmillan Jersey, an organisation which supports Islanders and their families affected by cancer.
Money raised from the event held during the final week of September – whether it be organising a bake sale, a workplace breakfast or community gathering – will help to make a “meaningful” difference by supporting the various services offered by Macmillan through the The Oasis Centre.
As the charity operates completely independently from its UK counterpart, it does not receive any funding from the government or Macmillan UK.
Last year’s event saw hundreds of Islanders come together and the charity hopes that even more people will take part this year, to make it the biggest and most inclusive coffee morning yet.
Kevin Alway, senior operations lead at Macmillan Jersey, said: “Jersey’s Greatest Coffee Morning has become one of the most powerful examples of our island community coming together for a shared cause. Cancer will directly affect one in two of us, meaning almost every family, friendship group, workplace and community organisation will be touched by cancer in some way.
“That’s why this year’s message is simple – however you choose to get involved, we want you to be part of it. Whether you’re hosting a coffee morning, organising a fundraising event with colleagues, bringing together your local community group, or simply getting friends and family together over a cup of coffee, your support helps ensure we can continue providing essential services to local people affected by cancer.”
