JERSEY’S only dedicated gluten-free shop and bakery is moving to a larger, more central location less than a year after opening its doors.
TJ’s Bake & Browse, which opened on Georgetown Road in November 2025, has reassured customers that it is “not closing” after its current premises were advertised to rent.
Owners Jess Rodrigues and Tom Hubert said they had “outgrown” the shop and were finalising arrangements for a new premises.
In a social media post, the couple said: “We’ve noticed some confusion following a recent post about our current premises becoming available to rent, so we’d like to reassure all our wonderful customers that TJ’s Bake & Browse is not closing.
“We always had big ideas of what to do and offer at TJ’s but have outgrown our current space.
“We’re finalising the arrangements for a new shop in a more central location.”
The business will continue trading as normal on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 5.30pm and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, as well as offering home delivery over the weekend.
Customers have been told to look out for updates on the new location, with the current store expected to close early on some days in September to allow for the move.
The couple added: “Thank you for all your support. We can’t wait to welcome you to our new store very soon.”
TJ’s Bake & Browse opened last year as Jersey’s first and only dedicated gluten-free shop and bakery.
The idea was born from the couple’s own difficulties finding suitable products, with the pair having coeliac disease and gluten and dairy allergies between them.
Speaking ahead of the opening last year, Mr Hubert said there was “always anxiety” around shopping and eating out as someone with coeliac disease.
He said the couple had become frustrated with having to search different supermarkets for gluten-free products, explaining: “Some shops don’t even have a [gluten-free] section.
“Some items are spread around the shelves, so you have to look through everything, which takes so much longer. We were just a bit frustrated with it all.”
The Georgetown shop stocks groceries including baking ingredients, sauces, snacks and cereals alongside homemade gluten-free baked goods.
