JERSEY Airport has achieved a carbon accreditation status for “advancing” sustainability and carbon reduction.
Ports of Jersey said the award marks a “major milestone” on its journey towards achieving net zero emissions, after earning Airport Carbon Accreditation Level Four “transformation” status, placing Jersey Airport among the leading 96 airports across Europe for sustainability and carbon reduction.
The ACA Level Four is awarded to airports which work beyond “measuring and managing” emissions, and instead are “embedding” sustainability into all aspects of the business to support climate goals.
Jersey Airport received the accreditation for changes including transitioning operational vehicles and terminal heating systems to hydrotreated vegetable oil, investing in energy-efficient measures such as LED lighting and supporting more efficient aircraft operations.
Sophie Alexander, head of sustainability and community at Ports of Jersey, said: “Achieving ACA Level 4 Transformation is a huge achievement for Jersey Airport and a testament to the dedication of colleagues and partners across our airport community. What makes this accreditation particularly meaningful is that it recognises a fundamental shift in the way we think and operate.
“We’re proud of how far we’ve come, but we’re even more excited about what comes next. This milestone provides real momentum as we continue our journey towards net zero 2030 and work together to create a more sustainable future for Jersey.”
