LOCAL artists residing all across the Island will open their homes to visitors across the first two weekends of August for the latest edition of Jersey Open Studios.
The event – which is the first of its kind for over ten years – provides Islanders with the “unique opportunity” to enjoy art in the homes of their favourite local artists.
It will feature art from all twelve parishes: eight artists from the West (St Brelade, St Peter and St Ouen), seven from Central (St Lawrence and St Helier), seven from the North (St Mary and St John) and three from the East (St Saviour, St Martin and Grouville).
The initiative was instigated by Raewyn Riva, who is herself displaying an “eclectic” collection of her artworks at her home in St Mary on 1 and 8 of August.
Another artist with a hand in organising the event is Corbière-based Ian Rolls, well-known in the Island for his fantastical approach to capturing Jersey landscapes.
Mr Rolls described Open Studios as a chance for Islanders “to meet the artists and gain an insight into how and where the work is produced, together with the inspirations and techniques involved”.
“Organising an Islandwide Open Studios event is quite an undertaking”, he added. “The last time there was an event like this in Jersey was ten years ago, in July 2016.
“Hopefully the success of this year’s smaller scale, self-organised and self-funded event will set the ball rolling for a more regular and comprehensive celebration of Island artists and their studios again.”
