JERSEY’s Chief Minister has wished Sir Keir Starmer “the very best for the future” after it was confirmed he would step down as Prime Minister this morning.

“I have seen the Prime Minister’s announcement this morning,” Senator Lyndon Farnham said in a statement.

“I am grateful to Sir Keir Starmer for his engagement with us and his support of our interests since his election in July 2024. I have met the Prime Minister on several occasions, including at two Summits of the British Irish Council, and I wish him the very best for the future.

“Jersey maintains a broad range of relationships within the Labour Party and across the UK Parliament more generally.

“It is important that we continue to engage positively with the Government, given the importance of our relationship with the UK, and I look forward to working with the new UK Prime Minister and Cabinet in due course.”
