A MOTORCYCLIST was taken to Southampton Hospital with “serious” injuries following a collision which closed one of the main routes into and out of town for several hours last night.
A 26-year-old man who was driving the car involved was arrested on suspicion of careless driving. He has since been released on bail while police investigations continue.
The collision between the car and motorbike happened at the junction of St Clement’s Road and La Route du Fort shortly before 3pm yesterday.
Police said the 51-year-old motorcyclist sustained “quite serious injuries” and was transported to Southampton for treatment.
La Route du Fort and several surrounding sections of road were closed for a number of hours while emergency services dealt with the incident, causing disruption during the afternoon rush hour.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
