ISLANDERS heading out on Liberation Day are likely to need a raincoat or an umbrella, Jersey Met has warned.

Showers, which could possibly be thundery, are a feature of tomorrow’s forecast, although the temperature should be above average.

Duty forecaster Andrei Steau said: “After some sunshine on Friday, we will see showers building up from early on Saturday and possibly some spells of rain, which could become thundery.

“The picture looks slightly better by Saturday afternoon, where there could be some hazy sunshine and a maximum temperature of 21°C, which is quite warm for the time of year – but there could still be showers around.”

Mr Steau said Sunday’s forecast indicated a cooler, wetter day, with wind levels picking up slightly from the force 4 predicted for Liberation Day.

Jersey Met has also confirmed the final statistics for April 2026, which was:

  • The equal third-mildest on record, with an average figure of 13.4°C, just 0.1°C short of the corresponding figure for 2020 and behind 2011’s record mark of 13.8°C. A high temperature of 26°C was recorded on 7 April – Jersey’s second-highest ever reading for the month.
  • The fourth driest since 1894, with 4.5 millimetres of rain, mostly falling around the start of the month. Jersey’s driest-ever April was 2011 (0.2mm), while in 1938 and 1980 totals of 2.3mm were recorded.
  • 31% sunnier than the average figure for the 30-year period ending 2020.
