FAMILIES with a household income of up to £75,000 are to receive support towards children returning to school to help tackle the growing cost-of-living crisis.

Under the government scheme, which was agreed as part of the 2026 Budget, eligible household will receive £100 for each primary school child and £150 for each secondary school pupil.

The Back to School Bonus will be available for children who will be at school in Jersey in September 2026 from Reception to Year 11.

The payment is intended to help families with expenses such as uniforms, shoes,  stationery and other back to school essentials and will be issued as a lump sum

One payment will be made per family, in the summer holiday, ahead of the new school year.

Social Security Minister Lyndsay Feltham said:  “As part of the government’s commitment in the Budget, I am pleased we are in a position to introduce this Back to School Bonus. I recognise the cost-of-living pressures many households are facing and it’s important that we help where we can to ease any financial stress on families by ensuring children across the Island have the essentials they need for the new school year.”

Automatic payments will be made to households receiving income support, while families not covered by income support will be able to apply through a application form, with details on how to apply due to be set out in the summer school term.
