“Reassurance patrols” outside the Jersey Islamic Centre will continue for the remainder of Ramadan, police have said, as they confirmed a second person had been arrested in relation to an alleged “racially motivated” incident targeting two Muslim men yesterday.
The reported altercation occurred outside the mosque on Aquila Road at around 2pm on Friday.
Police said yesterday evening that a 51-year-old man had been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
He will appear at the Magistrate’s Court on 1 April.
In a further update this morning, the force said that a 36-year-old woman had been arrested.
“She remains in custody and is assisting officers with their enquiries,” officers said.
The investigation is ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information about it.
They added: “Our Police Community Safety Team continues to support members of the Muslim community connected to Jersey’s Islamic Centre. Reassurance patrols will be carried out for the remainder of Ramadan.”
Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact the Police on 612612 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
