A VIDEO circulating on social media showing a child who appeared to be holding a knife has been reviewed by States police – who confirmed the item was a plastic toy.
In a joint statement, the States police and the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department said they were aware of footage circulating on social media depicting a child captured on a doorbell camera with what appeared to be a knife.
Officers reviewed the incident and established that the object in the child’s hand was in fact a bendy plastic Halloween toy. They confirmed there was “no malice involved” and that the child “was not acting with any harmful intent”.
Islanders have been asked to not to share the footage further and to remove any posts already published as it contains identifiable images of a minor.
“Protecting the privacy and wellbeing of children is essential, and we thank the community for their cooperation,” the statement said.
