WORK to refit the Jersey Lifeboat Association’s all-weather lifeboat Sir Max Aitken III – to help extend its service life “for many more years” – remains under way.
The Tyne-class steel lifeboat is one of two vessels used by the JLA, the other being its high-speed inshore RIB Albert Pinel.
The charity announced in October that it had decided to invest in new engines for Sir Max Aitken III “to enhance its sea going performance, average and top speed along with extending the vessel’s service life for many more years”.
In a recent update, the JLA said that the new engines had arrived from the UK.
“We are pleased to advise that our new engines have now been delivered to D K Collins Marine where an in-depth review will be undertaken before they get installed into Sir Max Aitken III,” the update stated.
