STATES police “have not been able to confirm or rule out” a reported incident in which a man allegedly approached a primary school pupil last week – but have asked Islanders to continue reporting any suspicious activity.
The update follows a previous confirmation from the force that it was investigating a report that a student at Grouville school was approached by a man at the junction of La Rue de la Haye du Puits and La Rue Maraval shortly before 3pm on Monday 2 February.
In an email to parents, headteacher Nichola Turner said the man had claimed he knew the boy’s mother and had come to pick him up.
“Thankfully, the child responded responsibly and firmly with ‘no, thank you’, which caused the man to leave quickly,” Ms Turner added.
A States police spokesperson yesterday stated that “all available enquiries into the report relating to Grouville” had been completed.
“We have not been able to confirm or rule out the incident,” the statement continued.
“There is nothing at this stage to suggest any ongoing risk, however, as an island community we can’t be complacent.
“This event serves as a reminder to Islanders, particularly parents and carers, to continue reminding children not to engage with strangers and to seek help from a trusted adult if they ever feel unsafe.”
Islanders are being asked to continue reporting “anything that seems suspicious or doesn’t feel right”.
“Your information could protect someone, support an investigation, or stop further offending, every report helps build a clearer picture,” the spokesperson added.
