JERSEY Business has once again come out in support of plans to build a luxury hotel next to Strive Health Club in St Peter.
Revised plans for a smaller hotel have been submitted by Strive after its first version was rejected in November. The new application proposes 24 fewer rooms and lowers the maximum height by just under 4m.
Taxpayer-funded advice and support service Jersey Business is one of 32 formal public comments on the fresh application so far. In it, chief executive Paul Murphy writes: “Our endorsement and support are based on a comprehensive assessment of confidential financial data, viability modelling and strategic rationale underpinning the proposal.”
He adds: “Jersey Business is satisfied that the Strive project aligns with the government’s Future Economy Programme and Visitor Economy Strategy. Our review of the […] data confirms that this project addresses a critical infrastructure gap in Jersey’s tourism and sports ecosystem.”
This was not disputed by the Planning Committee in November, who narrowly rejected the scheme, primarily due to its scale and size.
Strive say that have worked closely with Planning officers before presenting the smaller scheme.
Out of the 32 comments as of yesterday, 29 are in favour and three against. Of the statutory consultees so far, the Infrastructure Department’s operational services’ team objects, its ‘regulatory improvement and licensing’ team are in support, and the fire service is neutral.
The new application is for a 155-room hotel with conference centre, spa treatment rooms and swimming pool, with 54 covered and 63 uncovered parking spaces.
