GUERNSEY appears more often than Jersey in newly released documents linked to convicted criminal Jeffrey Epstein, new analysis suggests.
The so-called Epstein Files – a large cache of documents relating to the financier’s global business dealings and contacts – included 70 references specifically to the “Channel Islands”, while Guernsey got 240 mentions, analysis by JEP sister title Bailiwick Express showed.
St Peter Port appears 27 times in the files, compared with 15 references to St Helier.
The States of Guernsey appears 90 times, compared with a single mention of the States of Jersey. The ‘Government of Jersey’ did not feature.
Many Jersey references initially returned in searches related to New Jersey, rather than the Island, and were discounted.
Guernsey’s financial regulator, the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, was mentioned 76 times, while the Jersey Financial Services Commission was referenced just 10 times.
Most Channel Islands-related documents appear to concern routine company administration. Both islands maintain a relatively low profile compared with jurisdictions such as the British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands, which are mentioned more than 1,300 times each.
Neither Sark nor Alderney returned any results in the files.
