ONE Islander due to travel to the UK for in-patient treatment had their appointment cancelled after a fire broke out at Southampton Hospital over the weekend.
A major incident was declared after the blaze broke out in the endoscopy unit of Southampton General Hospital at around 5.30am on Sunday 1 February.
More than 200 patients were evacuated from wards, but no-one was injured.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said more than 110 firefighters attended the blaze at its peak.
The fire was brought under control on Sunday, but services were expected to be cancelling in the following days.
A statement from Jersey’s Health Department confirmed that 11 Islanders were due to travel for appointments at Southampton Hospital on Sunday.
“We have not been informed of any cancellations to their planned appointments,” a spokesperson said.
However, one Islander who was due to travel to Southampton on Sunday for in-patient treatment on Monday had their appointment cancelled.
“It will be rescheduled as soon as possible,” the statement added.
“We understand that the impact from the fire has been significant and our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.”
