ISLANDERS with flu-like symptoms have been urged not attend the General Hospital or call an ambulance unless absolutely necessary, following an increase in Covid cases.

A Health spokesperson told the JEP that there had been a “small rise” in the number of infections across services.

In light of this, special measures have been put in place to prevent the spread of Covid –  including mask-wearing and a restriction on the number of visitors.

There has also been a rise in the number of people attending the emergency department with respiratory illnesses.

Hospital visitors can expect to see staff wearing masks and will be asked to do so themselves.

Islanders with a cough, runny nose, high temperature or other flu-like symptoms are asked to avoid the Hospital where possible.

But Dr Awilly Chofle, consultant physician in infectious diseases and medical microbiology, said that those with “shortness of breath” or “worsening” condition should seek medical attention.

If an ambulance is sent out, patients should inform paramedics of their symptoms so they can wear a mask.
