ISLANDERS have been warned to expect further travel disruption this week after two outbound flights from Jersey Airport were cancelled yesterday amid ongoing wintry weather across the UK.

The 8.50am service to Liverpool and the 1.50pm flight to Manchester were both grounded, affecting passengers hoping to travel to the north of England.

Both services were operated by EasyJet, which confirmed the cancellations were linked to weather-related disruption elsewhere in its network.

In the message sent to affected passengers, the airline apologised for the inconvenience and said that cancellations were caused by “changes to our flying due to delays created by adverse weather”.

The airline said the disruption was outside of its control and had been classified as an “extraordinary circumstance”.

Jersey Airport also warned that further snow and icy conditions are forecast across parts of the UK in the coming days, increasing the risk of delays and cancellations for inbound and outbound flights.

In a statement shared on social media, the airport said: “Further snow and ice conditions are expected across the UK this week, which could lead to some travel disruption.

“If you’re flying, please check the latest updates with your airline before heading to the airport.

“Allow extra time for your journey, take care on slippery surfaces, and as always travel safely.”

Four amber snow warnings have been issued across northern Scotland, with six yellow snow and ice warnings across the rest of the UK.

Jersey Met Office yesterday issued a yellow ice warning for the Island, as temperatures were expected to fall below zero overnight.
