Deputy Helen Miles. (39320706)

A BID to prioritise the reinvigoration of the shopping area at Le Quennevais has been unanimously supported by States Members.

Members voted by 38-0 in favour of the proposition by St Brelade Deputy Helen Miles calling for Les Quennevais Parade and Precinct to be specifically included in the Future-Fit Retail Roadmap and the West of Island Planning Framework, both of which set standards for the Island’s future.

Deputy Miles accepted a ministerial amendment tweaking the wording used in the proposition slightly. Several members of the government spoke in support, including Environment Minister Steve Luce, Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel, and Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham.

Admitting that the move was not a quick fix, Deputy Miles said she was fulfilling a manifesto commitment regarding Les Quennevais, saying her previous attempts had felt like “banging my head against a brick wall”.

The area had become run-down and given a bad first impression of the Island to visitors who landed at the airport and made their way past the parade while on the bus to St Helier.

Fellow St Brelade representatives Deputies Montfort Tadier, Jonathan Renouf and Moz Scott also spoke in favour of the move.
