THE Jersey Met Office has issued a severe wind warning for Jersey to take effect later this afternoon.

The warning said force seven south-easterly gales veering west to south-west up to severe force nine were expected from mid-afternoon. Gusts will be up to 65 knots.

The red warning was posted on X and showed the impact area covered the Channel Islands shipping area.

When a weather warning is labelled red, the Met Office indicates to avoid outdoor activity and follow advice from authorities.

The warning was published just before 9am this morning, with high winds expected to arrive within six to 12 hours from the time of issue, the Wind Warning Service said.
