A LONG-RUNNING St Helier family Portuguese restaurant has announced it will be closing its doors to the final time.
Barros’ Tropical Bistro, which has operated at David Place for the last 11 years, will call its final orders on Saturday 20 December.
The restaurant is currently operated by manager and chef Michelle de Barros after she took the reins from her parents in 2010.
The family had originally served customers for 19 years at the restaurant’s first location in Colomberie.
However, the decision to close has come as a result of the building’s lease expiring.
The family took to social media this week to make the announcement.
In a Facebook post revealing the closure, the family wrote “For us – it’s the end of an era!”
Describing their time in the local hospitality trade as “quite the journey”, the Barros’ then took to thanking their customers.
“We cannot thank all our customers enough for your loyalty and custom over the past 30 years,” the post read. “We are grateful for so many amazing memories that we will cherish forever.”
Encouraging Islanders to visit them one last time for a “final Barros espetada” the family said they “hope to see lots of familiar friendly faces in our last couple of months”.
