ALMOST £2,000 has been raised in honour of a five-year-old Islander as part of a fundraising day to mark the anniversary of their death.

On Friday, Islanders are being invited to wear blue and yellow for ‘Kason’s Day’, a fundraiser created in memory of Kason Le Flahec, who unexpectedly died in October 2024.

Kason’s mother, Ellie, created the event as a way to honour her son and mark the first anniversary of his death.

Ms Le Flahec has chosen three charities that will jointly benefit from the funds raised: Centre Point Trust, Mont à l’Abbé School and Autism Jersey.

She described Kason as a “beautiful, loving soul who had his whole life ahead of him and deserved the world”.

Ms Le Flahec explained that Kason’s love of Minions inspired her choice of the colours.

The former Mont à l’Abbé pupil was autistic and non-verbal, with his mother sharing praise for the school’s support during his time there.

She said: “They had done such a great job with him, his development and speech were coming along so nicely.”

She added that her son also attended Centre Point during the holidays, saying: “The staff there were so good with him, and they have been ever so supportive since Kason’s death.”

Mont à l’Abbé and Samarès are amongst some of the schools taking part in the memorial day next week, with staff and pupils taking part in non-uniform days.

Ms Le Flahec said: “It will be his one-year anniversary and I would really like to make the day special for him to celebrate his life.

“It would also be special for my seven-year-old son, Jakob, who misses his brother dearly.”

Ms Le Flahec described the past 12 months as “the worst year of our lives.”

“The day I had to tell Jakob that his brother passed away was just as hard as losing my son.

“They weren’t just brothers but were best friends.”

Lesley Harrison, head of charitable services at Autism Jersey, said: “Kason was a beautiful, much loved and much missed little boy.

“Autism Jersey will be joining in the celebration of Kason’s life on the 17 October, and promoting the wearing of blue and yellow in honour of Kason and his love for Minions.

“The share of monies raised for Autism Jersey, will be used to support our family activites for children and their families. “

“These events provide a very welcome opportunity for autistic children to be their authentic selves and have fun and laughter without judgement, and what a wonderful way to use that funding in celebration of Kason’s life.”

On Kason’s Day, blue and yellow balloons will be released at La Mare slip at 2pm.
