TICKETS for the 50th anniversary of the Channel Islands Christmas Lottery – with a guaranteed first prize starting at £300,000 – will start to go on sale from tomorrow.

The annual lottery sees the top prize increase through ticket sales with all proceeds going to local charities.  As well as the main lottery draw game, the Extravaganza scratchcard game will be launched at the same time with 33,600 cash prizes available.

The main draw is due to take place in Jersey on Thursday 18 December and will celebrate the Channel Islands Lottery’s 50th Anniversary.

Jon Taylor, head of the CI Lottery, said: “In its 50th year, the CI Lottery has supported key community events such as the Island Games, Liberation Day festivities, local leisure facilities and countless local charitable organisations over the years. The Christmas Lottery, together with all our instant lottery games, has raised tens of £millions across the islands for charities and worthy causes since its inception in 1975.

Mr Taylor said the lottery operators have introduced more prizes in recent years, with tickets priced at £2.

“Ultimately, the aim is to generate funds for worthy causes but we’re also conscious of keeping the ticket price as affordable as possible and making as many winners as we can with the prize fund available to us,” said Mr Taylor.

Paul Bates, Head of Sales for Fox Trading, the main distribution agent in Jersey, said:  “We’re delighted to support the distribution of this year’s Christmas lottery that raises funds for so many good causes throughout Jersey.

“We will be distributing Christmas lottery tickets to shops and businesses throughout Jersey and can still assist directly for those wishing to purchase tickets for a syndicate.”

This year, business, clubs and groups of friends or family can purchase syndicate tickets through www.cilottery.org.

Mr Taylor added: “Both distribution agents in each island have offered syndicate ticket sales previously and will continue to do so but being able to purchase online through a secure web page makes life so much easier for syndicate customers.”
