A POLITICAL party is to rebrand with an event next week to encourage prospective election candidates to join.

The Jersey Liberal Conservatives founded ahead of the 2022 election and secured two seats in the Chamber – party leader Deputy Sir Philip Bailhache and Deputy Malcolm Ferey.

Now relaunching under the Advance Jersey banner, the party is looking to ensure that the voices of “moderate Jersey men and women are heard”.

Deputy Bailhache said: “We are seeking to build up resources and for those who are thinking of standing for election and who are positioned on the centre-right of politics, we want them to know that Advance Jersey exists.

“It can be a lonely process when you stand for election and so some may find it encouraging to have support from a political party that shares their views.

“The primary purpose is to try to persuade people that we do have party politics in Jersey. We have a party on the left [Reform Jersey] that is very active and a healthy democracy requires that there should be a party on the right to balance it out.”

The Island is set to go to the polls on Sunday 7 June next year.

Islanders are being invited to the launch of Advance Jersey on Wednesday 24 September at the Pomme d’Or Hotel at 6pm where the party’s mission statement will be outlined.
