A LOCAL church is this week hosting a concert to raise money for Jersey-born quadruple amputee Lily McGarry.
The 24-year-old was rushed to hospital earlier this year whilst displaying flu-like symptoms. There, she suffered two cardiac arrests and slipped into a coma for two weeks.
Diagnosed with meningococcal septicaemia, Lily then had to undergo surgery to shorten all four limbs.
Taking place on Thursday [7 AUGUST] at Georgetown Methodist Church, the concert will be performed by Lily’s close friend from her JCG days Julia Callander and pianist Aaron Le Maistre. The pair have recently completed Masters degrees at UK conservatoires and will take to the stage at 7:30pm.
It follows another concert performed by Julia and Aaron at the Methodist church in August of last year, which was attended by Lily McGarry amongst other friends and family.
Lily is currently in the Welsh Burns and Plastic Surgery unit at Morriston Hospital in Swansea, having undergone surgery on her leg last week. She plans to move to a rehabilitation centre in Llandough Cardiff once fully healed and hopes to return to Jersey for some rest following three months in the rehabilitation centre.
The Georgetown Methodist Church team said they were “delighted” to support the event in aid of Lily, adding that, “thanks to the generosity of Delta Solutions, the performance will be livestreamed to Lily herself”.
“The concert will give her a boost in her long journey back to recovery with all the medical assistance she will need: teams of nurses, physios and therapists,” they said.
“Nothing comes without great cost and, through the retiring collection or Lily’s GoFundMe page, Georgetown hopes to make a considerable contribution to the appeal fund set up to help Lily rebuild her life.”
The concert marks the most recent in a series of fundraising efforts which have taken place on the island to support Lily’s recovery including the Swim for Lily and Run for Lily which acknowledged her passion as a former triathlete.
Almost £450,000 has been raised though her Go Fund Me page gofundme.com/f/h4th5-help-support-lily.
