The Island’s chief statistician has published his first annual report.

Ian Cope said his report provided a “comprehensive overview” of Statistics Jersey’s performance last year, with 2024 described as a “landmark year”.

The report also sets out priorities for the future, and highlights improvements to statistical methodology and the publication of new reports.

In 2024, Statistics Jersey published 29 reports, updated its Retail Price Index (RPI) processes for the first time in 20 years and published the first update to population projects since 2016.

Amendments to the Island’s Statistics and Census legislation came into force earlier this year, with one of the changes requiring the chief statistician to produce an annual report.

Mr Cope said: “This report marks a significant step towards greater transparency and accountability, and it reflects our commitment to delivering trusted, independent statistics for Jersey.”

Mr Cope said the work that Statistics Jersey do was “essential to understanding how our Island is changing and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made”.

The new report can be found on Statistics Jersey’s website.
