A SUSPECTED German mortar bomb has been recovered from the sand dunes after a member of the public took it home and reported it to police.

The item, potentially containing explosives, has been collected by Jersey’s Bomb Disposal Officer.

Police officers are now urging Islanders to “not collect or move any suspicious items that may be remnants of World War II”.

“Our Island is steeped in history, and while these discoveries can be fascinating, they can also be dangerous,” the force said.

Anyone who finds a suspicious object is advised to leave it in place and call 612612, sharing photos and the precise location, preferably using the What3Words app if located on a beach.
