DFDS has said it is working on plans to avoid scheduling issues when sailing to St Malo this winter, amid concerns that an impending upgrade of the French port will temporarily impact the number of available berths.

Last year saw the approval of a major project to modernise St Malo’s ageing ferry terminal and improve the harbour area, which was deemed “essential” for the future of the port by the mayor, Gilles Lurton.

While facing questions about the performance of DFDS’s Jersey operations so far, Chief Minister Lyndon Farnham recently reminded States Members that “there are works to improve the St Malo port over the winter, which means instead of two berths being available, there will be one”.

He added that this would “present new challenges in the not too distant future”.

A DFDS spokesperson said: “We are aware of the work to improve St Malo port over winter and are working on plans to ensure schedules align with other providers and the ports.”
