THE driver of a car and passengers in the vehicle were rescued by a passing boat after being caught by the rising tide.
The incident happened at St Aubin’s Fort yesterday afternoon as the white vehicle, which had been driven across the causeway to the Fort at some point after low tide at 11.55am, began an attempted return journey.
Robert Merrill, who was watching events unroll from the car park next to the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club, said the car became stuck soon after leaving the Fort, leading to the occupants getting out of the vehicle and being picked up by the passing boat.
The abandoned car had gradually been submerged by the rising tide and was fully covered by around 4pm, Mr Merrill added.
After high tide at 5.41pm, it is understood a recovery vehicle was able to access the causeway after 8pm and retrieve the car. States of Jersey Police said today they had no record of being called to the incident.
