Matt Roberts was cheered on by colleagues as he finished at La Frégate

A FIREFIGHTER has completed a 150km run by racing around Jersey not once, but twice, in under 24 hours to raise money for two local charities.

Matt Roberts crossed the finish line 23 hours after he started his ultra-marathon.

Starting from La Frégate, Matt followed the Island Walk route anti-clockwise around Jersey before returning to the Waterfront and setting off again in the opposite direction.

Throughout the run, he was joined at various points by colleagues from Jersey Fire and Rescue, along with friends and family who offered support.

The challenge was set up to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity and Friends of Jersey Oncology, with donations reaching over £5,700 through his SportsGiving page.

In an update posted shortly after he finished, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said: “23 hours since setting off and Matt has made it to the finish line. A tremendous effort. We are so proud of him and all the firefighters, friends, and family members who joined him along the way.”
