BARS and nightclubs in Jersey will be allowed to stay open for an extra hour on Liberation Day to mark the 80th anniversary of the Island’s liberation from German occupation.
A special extension will be permitted to licensed establishments on the evening of Friday 9 May.
This means bars can open until midnight instead of 11pm and nightclubs will not have to close until 3am
The extended opening hours form part of events and activities organised across the weekend to mark Liberation 80.
Liberation Day was officially adopted as Jersey’s national day earlier this month after politicians voted to approve an amended proposition.
A dedicated website has also been launched to provide Islanders and visitors with a single port of call to find Liberation Day information.
Free tickets are now available for those wishing to be seated in Liberation Square for the Service of Thanksgiving and re-enactment on Friday 9 May.
Tickets can be purchased online via Eventbrite, or there a small number of physical tickets available from the Royal Court on a first-come-first-served basis.
The dedicated website can be accessed here.
