A TRIBUTE act to Queen has been announced as the headliner for this year’s Battle of Flowers Moonlight Parade.

UK Queen will perform the hits of the British rock band on Saturday 10 August.

The band’s lead guitarist Jonny Senett, who plays Brian May, was born and raised in Jersey. Meanwhile, Alexander Koronka has portrayed Freddie Mercury for over a decade.

The Battle’s event director, Adam Flynn, said: “We are thrilled to announce that UK Queen will rock you at the Moonlight Parade this year.

“With their incredible performances, we’re certain they’ll be a kind of magic that ensures we all have a killer time.”

Eurovision star Sam Ryder, who won over the continent’s audiences in 2022 with his song Space Man, is to perform on Friday.

The singer will also take part in the Battle day parade, which takes place on 9 August from 4pm, followed by a full-length concert.

Marti Pellow, former Wet Wet Wet frontman, is to headline the inaugural Battle of Flowers Sunday concert on 11 August in the Lower Park as part of a greatest-hits tour. The band’s biggest hit, Love is All Around, spent 15 weeks at number one in the UK charts and appeared in the Richard Curtis 1994 film Four Weddings and a Funeral.

An audience favourite from 2023, Notting Hill Carnival band Flagz, are due to return to both parades.

Organisers have also highlighted that this year’s Battle of Flowers is due to see all 12 parishes represented – with St Martin, St John and Trinity joining forces to form the “Northern Alliance”, and St Mary and St Ouen teaming up to enter.

Tickets can be purchased for the Battle of Flowers Grand Day Parade and Moonlight Parade here and for Marti Pellow’s Sunday concert here.

In preparation for the festival, the Battle of Flowers team has also organised an Island-wide roadshow that aims to foster a closer connection between the festival and its supporters.

Brooke Le Breton, the Battle’s box office manager, said: “The roadshow is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet Battle fans face-to-face, offer personalised ticket advice, and make the ticket purchasing process as smooth as possible.”

The roadshow is due to be launched at Charing Cross today from 10am to 4pm.
