A REMINDER to check tides has been issued by Jersey Fire and Rescue Service after two people were left stranded at Seymour Tower.

JFRS said they worked with Jersey Coastguard to rescue the pair, who were cut off by the rising tide on Saturday evening.

In a statement released following the rescue, JFRS said: “Always remember to check the tides and ensure you tell others where you are and when you are due to return.”

The Seymour stranding is the third to happen along the south coast in less than a week.

The St Helier inshore lifeboat was called out to two rescues – at Elizabeth Castle and Green Island – in quick succession on Thursday evening.

Figures for strandings so far this year have been described as “worrying” by the Coastguard.
