DAMAGE to parts of St Catherine’s Breakwater, including cracks up to 15cm wide, have led to a team of specialists being engaged to carry out surveys to assess what repairs are required.

Contractors from infrastructure consultancy AECOM will be inspecting the breakwater and adjoining slipway from tomorrow until 14 March.

The area was among those sustaining damage when Storm Ciarán battered Jersey in early November.

A tornado later shown to be the most intense to affect the British Isles since 1954 passed across the south-east corner of the Island, with some of the most severe impact being seen at Fliquet, just a few hundred metres north of St Catherine’s.

While the survey work – which will incorporate drones, ground penetrating radar and analysis of surfaces – is being carried out, some public parking spaces will be temporarily unavailable in order that equipment used by the contractors can be stored.

A spokesperson for Ports of Jersey said repair work would be planned and undertaken once the results of the survey have been analysed.
