A MOTORIST who said he drove at almost twice the speed limit because he was “an idiot” has been fined £180.
Carl Reginald Sutton (61) was spotted driving his black BMW at 39mph along Mont Les Vaux in St Brelade – in a 20mph zone – on 27 December. He admitted the charge of speeding when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court. When asked if he had any explanation, he responded: “Because I was an idiot.”
The court heard that Sutton had previous convictions for speeding.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke told him: “Saying you are an idiot isn’t really good enough.”
As well as the fine he endorsed Sutton’s licence for three years.
