THOUSANDS of books collected by the Jersey Guide Dogs for the Blind charity will be available to Islanders on Saturday.
The organisation is hosting a giveaway of 3,500 hard-back novels at St Ouen’s Parish Hall between 9am and 3pm, with anyone welcome to take as many copies as they can carry in return for a donation.
St Ouen’s Methodist Church was previously used to store the charity’s extensive selection of books, which are sold at their four annual sale events, but plans have now been lodged to turn the historic chapel into an indoor skate park and cultural hub, meaning the books have been given their ‘marching orders’.
The charity says its book store at Portinfer, in St Ouen, is full.
Pricing is currently under way for the organisation’s October sale – usually the biggest of the year – which is scheduled to take place at the Albert Bartlett building on Trinity Hill on 7 and 8 October.
