THE government is reminding Islanders that the Tunnel will be closed to westbound traffic this weekend so that drainage works can continue.
The first lane closure a fortnight ago left many roads in town gridlocked. However, improvements to the traffic-management system are now in place to help the traffic flow from Friday night until Monday morning. The closure is necessary for ‘essential upgrades to the existing drainage infrastructure’ to take place, according to the government.
Motorists approaching from the east have been encouraged to stay on the coast and use Havre des Pas, Mount Bingham and Commercial Buildings.
Islanders heading along Route du Fort will be directed, at the roundabout, either left (southbound on Green Street in a reversal of the usual one-way system) or right (northbound on Green Street) to the centre of St Helier.
Additional advanced warning signs are being put up in the area.
