Megan Langlois at Glastonbury (36083602)

JERSEY singer Megan Langlois has thanked Islanders for coming out to support her as she played Glastonbury.

Describing the crowd as ‘brilliant’ and the gig as ‘humbling’, Mrs Langlois said there were lots of Jersey flags in the crowd.

She played the Mandala Stage at the festival on Friday afternoon.

She said: ‘There were a lot of Jersey people in the crowd. It was brilliant to see so much support from Jersey.’

Mrs Langlois was offered the gig in April, after submitting a video of original songs at the insistence of her wife and friends.

She added: ‘I had the flag wrapped around the mic stand. The number of flags that were in the tent – that was so good. I was amazed actually. I was humbled.’

Mrs Langlois said she had played mostly original songs, even managing to get her wife, Natalie, onto the stage to sing some harmonies, which she described as ‘really lovely’.

She admitted that seeing so much support in the audience had helped calm her nerves, adding: ‘I feel so much more calm now. It made it so much easier playing, knowing that the support is in the audience. Just seeing the Jersey people and the Jersey flag was great.’

A former JCG student, Mrs Langlois always loved music – but built her confidence as a musician when travelling in New Zealand.

Back home in Jersey Mrs Langlois plays in the duet Pretty Vegas together with her wife, as well as teaching guitar and organising open mic nights – all on top of a day job in the financial sector.

She said: ‘For me, the support from Jersey was just incredible, it really was, and I was so humbled. Thank you all so much for coming down.’
