MADE In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews could be forced to get rid of a tool shed that was built on his £7 million Jersey estate without planning permission.
The TV personality erected the ‘small agricultural tool shed’ after incorrectly believing that ‘it was legitimate to build under the property’s permitted developmental rights’.
Mr Matthews – who bought the Island property in December 2021 with wife Vogue Williams – has now had to submit a retrospective planning application for the structure.
Writing on Mr Matthews’ behalf, planning agent Michael Stein, of MS Planning, explained that the shed was ‘erected in this location because there are no other buildings at Domaine de la Valette that have the capacity for storing the agricultural tools and equipment needed to maintain the 40 vergées of agricultural land’.
However, resident Lyn Plaster submitted a public comment to object to the retrospective planning application.
Her reasons for objecting to the shed include the fact that it is located in an agricultural field and is ‘clearly visible’ from public land.
However, Mr Stein defended the structure, and said that it was ‘tucked close to the northern boundary of the field and built with appropriate materials and colours that fit this countryside context; the proposal will sit comfortably and will not be readily visible from any public vantage points’.
