Plans submitted to convert Jersey hotel into self-catering units

PLANS have been submitted to convert a St Brelade hotel into 16 self-catering cottages with parking, a restaurant, reception and outdoor facilities.

The proposals for Hotel La Place, on Route du Coin, include demolishing the existing kitchen extension and various external alterations, and the installation of cladding and pergolas.

The planning application, submitted by MyIncroft Holdings, explains that the ‘self-catering units will be served by a reception and [will] have a communal pool, similar to that currently provided by the hotel, and all units will have private access and amenity spaces, along with one parking space each’.

While permission was granted to convert the northern block of the hotel into self-catering cottages in 2021, the latest application calls for the same approach in relation to the remaining areas of the building as ‘it has been established as the best and most desirable form of accommodation at this site’.

The application adds: ‘This has been proved by the highly successful self-catering cottages to the north of the hotel, and the four new self-catering units that were completed last year.’

If approved, the scheme will reduce the site’s size by approximately 300sqm, the document says.

The proposal concludes by stating that it is hoped that the project will allow ‘the hotel to adapt and continue to thrive and provide facilities for tourists and locals’.
