A NEW opening date for the Les Quennevais skate park could be announced next week, according to the minister who holds political responsibility for sport.
Assistant Economic Development Minister Lucy Stephenson said bad weather throughout December and into the new year had slowed final works on site, but added that she hoped the park would open this month.
The facility was originally scheduled to open last summer but experienced a number of delays due to requests for design changes from groups who will use the arena, as well as supply chain issues.
Specialist builders Mind Work Ramps, a Latvian company, are constructing the 2,000sqm park.
Deputy Stephenson said: ‘Work on the Les Quennevais skate park progressed well over the latter parts of 2022, despite supply chain issues on materials and contractors.
‘The bad weather experienced over the last few weeks of December and since the new year has unfortunately also heavily impacted the final works on site, but the team continue to work hard during breaks in the weather, with the aim of having the park open this month.
‘We hope to be able to communicate a revised opening date next week.’
