MORE than 150 musicians are expected to take part in a 24-hour charity fundraising event next month.
The Jersey Academy of Music is hosting the show from 4pm on 1 October to raise money for Autism Jersey after the son of one their teachers was recently diagnosed with the condition.
Different genres of music are to be performed in three rooms which will be used throughout the 24-hour period.
Claire Harvey, principal of the Jersey Academy of Music, said: ‘The event will be opened by two junior orchestras consisting of 40 children each and we will have everything from 80s rock bands to choirs performing.
‘We have opened up the fundraiser to anyone who wishes to come and play. We have got people of all ages and experience performing and are expecting over 150 musicians to be involved.’
Mrs Harvey will be playing for the full 24 hours, swapping between a number of instruments.
‘I thought as the principal I had to step up and set a good example. A number of the other teachers are also going to be playing for as long as possible. We have got beds at the academy, so people can have a nap if needs be.
‘We are also currently creating specific themes to the evening. We will have a crazy midnight hour where we play spooky songs; we have also got a jazz lounge,’ she added.
Mrs Harvey also said that anyone was welcome to watch the performances and that there would be a live-stream on social media to view.
