FANS of felines and flat whites can rejoice following news that a pop-up cat café is expected to open in the Island next month.

The café – which is being set up and run by cat owner Athena Kallias at her home in St Brelade – will raise money for two charities: Association CATS, based in France, which has sent many pets to Jersey to find homes, and the Halkidiki Animal Rescue centre in Greece.

Mrs Kallias said she was part of a team of three, which also included the head of the Jersey Cat Search Group, Jo Abraham, and Cozy Cats Cattery owner Fiona Stratford.

‘This wouldn’t be possible without them, as they are my partners in crime,’ Mrs Kallias said.

The cats that will appear at the café are all owned by Mrs Kallias, and while they are not up for adoption, the charities mentioned have many that are in need of a home.

Mrs Kallias said: ‘We hope everyone enjoys raising money in the company of furry friends.’

The pop-up café will also run a prize raffle, with Mrs Kallias explaining that all prizes had been donated by the Equal Rights 4 Cats group and Jersey’s community of cat-lovers.

‘Once we have counted up the full amount raised, we will post the final amount and give our followers updates on the charities receiving their donations. It’ll be fun for everyone and all the money raised will go to wonderful causes; it’s a win-win,’ she said.

The ticketed event includes afternoon tea, provided by Fredericks Food Made Fun, with all food being gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan.

The café is expected to run on 3, 4, 10 and 11 September, with slots available for ten people in two-hour sessions, which can be booked via Facebook: facebook.com/events/2202537646587642.

Tickets cost £25, with no charge for children, and all the money raised will be split equally between the two charities.
