TOM FRAME is set to end Jersey’s 24-year wait for a Commonwealth Games boxer at Birmingham 2022.

The 29-year-old, who claimed his second Western Counties title in March, is one of two new additions to the Island squad for this summer’s Games, alongside teenage swimmer Isaac Dodds.

The pair join 22 others who have already had their selection secured in athletics, cycling, gymnastics, lawn bowls, swimming and triathlon.

Frame – an England Boxing National Amateur Championships semi-finalist last month – will follow in the footsteps of John Sillitoe and Lee Meager when he appears in the 63.5kg-division.

Sillitoe won bronze for Jersey at the 1986 Games in Edinburgh, with Meager appearing in an Island vest at the 1998 event in Kuala Lumpur.

Dodds, meanwhile, joins Harry Shalamon, Gemma Atherley and Robbie Jones in Jersey’s swimming squad for 2022, having won the ‘Paris Potential’ junior 200m individual medley final at the British Championships earlier this month.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games starts on 28 July and runs until 8 August.
