YOUTH workers will co-ordinate with the honorary police ‘where needed’ and continue educating young people about ‘responsible behaviour’ after a St John resident claimed a group of children tried to vandalise her car and steal her belongings.
The incident was recently reported by the parishioner on social media and allegedly involved teenagers who attend the nearby youth club.
Constable Andy Jehan said: ‘We are very fortunate in St John – we don’t have a lot of trouble and we want it to stay that way.
‘The Youth Project does brilliant work and I have nothing but good things to say about the youngsters that go there.
‘If any of them have fallen off the rails then we need to help them get back on as soon as possible.’
A government spokesperson said: ‘We were made aware of an incident involving a very small number of young people, following a senior youth session at St John’s Youth Club.
‘The incident took place off-site, after the session had finished and we understand that no damage was caused.
‘Youth workers have spoken with the member of the community who was concerned, as well as with the honorary police and the young people involved.’
They added: ‘Youth workers continue to educate young people during sessions about responsible behaviour, and will work with honorary police, where needed, to ensure that youth clubs remain a vital part of the community.’
