The debris was discovered last weekend on land adjacent to Route de la Haule around 160 metres east of the Beaumont filter-in-turn.

Just a few weeks earlier, between 1 March and 15 March, several pieces of asbestos-coated roofing were also fly-tipped in a field near Maufant.

Environmental Protection are now investigating the incidents and anyone with information is being asked to come forward.

Speaking about the St Peter incident, Richard Runacres, a spokesperson for the unit, said: ‘The items were next to some hedging and grass so it could impact on that, it could pollute the groundwater and it is probably 20 metres from the beach.

‘Predominantly it is about protecting the birds that are in that area, the mammals that might be about and the flora that is within that area.’

Other items dumped in St Peter included roofing material, nails, electrical cables and black bin liners.

Mr Runacres added: ‘Dumping waste such as this in an agricultural field close to the beach and off a busy main road is unbelievable.

‘Oils, chemicals and electrical items all have real potential to harm our environment.

‘Please do let us know if you have any information that might help us identify those individuals who choose to spoil our Island.’

  • Anyone with information into either incident is asked to call Environmental Protection on 709535 or email envprotection@gov.je.
