Was one of your family members injured in a First World War battle?

The message from the War Office reported that a Leicestershire Regiment serviceman called William Smith had been wounded in action in the Persian Gulf in March 1916.

The note was found inside an envelope in a Reader’s Digest atlas donated to Acorn’s Reuse Centre.

A note on the envelope read: ‘To daddy’s mother, notifying her of his injury (World War 1).’

In a Facebook post, Acorn said: ‘We often find things, particularly documents, that might be of sentimental value.

‘We have come across this telegram today which was inside a book and might be of interest to the person. If it is yours please do get in touch and we’d be delighted to reunite you with it.’
