The year has been an extremely challenging one for all concerned and many cannot wait to see the back of 2020 but, as we head towards the new year, the JEP is launching a campaign to highlight some of the good that has happened during the past 12 months.
Islanders are being encouraged to write something for which they are thankful on a piece of paper and take a photo of themselves holding it. The pictures can then be shared on social media using the #thanks2020jsy, and tagging @JEPnews. Pictures can also be emailed to together@jerseyeveningpost.com.
It is hoped the pictures will then inspire others to take some time out from the pressures of the pandemic to reflect positively on the year, and hopefully raise a few smiles too. A selection will also be printed in the newspaper.
JEP assistant editor Lucy Stephenson said: ‘The challenges of 2020 have been, and continue to be, huge and it remains an anxious time for us all. However, we hope that by encouraging some positive thinking, if only for a couple of minutes each, we can give everyone a bit of a morale boost this festive season.
‘In 2020 I am thankful for the amazing takeaways we have been able to sample from some fantastic Jersey restaurants and cafés and for discovering the joy of a walk at the beach during my lunch break – something I would never have done had I been sat in the office.’
Jersey Citizens’ Advice chief executive Malcolm Ferey welcomed the campaign and urged people to take part.
He added: ‘Wherever you are, and no matter how important or stressful your position in life is, take some downtime over the festive period. It really is important that we all do this.’
Meanwhile, blogger and JEP contributor Jo Ferbrache, who writes under the name Sober Jo, said she was grateful for her sobriety this year.
‘A lot has happened this year and, due to having a clear head and a sunny disposition, I was able to turn any personal negatives into positives,’ she said.
‘I have also been able to support those around me in a way that I might not have been able to do if I had been drinking.’
