Investigation after ‘private event’ leads to Covid cluster

And as a result an investigation is now underway to make sure all the proper rules were followed.

The announcement came on Thursday at the same time that the government revealed that there had been a total of 35 new cases of the virus identified in the past 24 hours.

Three cases had recovered, bringing the total number of active cases in the Island to 181. Of those 125 are symptomatic and two are in hospital.

Of the new cases, five were identified through planned workforce screening, one through cohort screening, 20 through contact tracing and nine while individuals were seeking healthcare.

The government said: ‘We are aware of a cluster of cases originating from a private event held last week in the hospitality sector. This is being investigated to check whether or not all the public health measures were followed. We would urge Islanders to adhere to the rules, as just one event can have a significant effect on our statistics and we want to ensure we can continue to avoid a lockdown in the run-up to Christmas.’
