Pride of Jersey: Almost 30,000 votes already

ALMOST 30,000 votes have been cast since the Pride of Jersey polls opened almost a week ago.

Voting began at 6am last Tuesday and by this morning 29,902 votes had been registered across the 14 categories.

A total of 153 people have been nominated this year – ten more than in 2019 – in categories including Teacher of the Year, Neighbour of the Year and Inspirational Leader of the Year.

The awards also include a new category – Mental Health Champion – to recognise all those who have gone above and beyond to help others through what has been a difficult year.

Islanders can continue to vote for their community heroes at until midnight on Saturday 31 October.

The three entrants who receive the most votes in each category will be put before a panel of judges.

All three will be invited to an awards ceremony planned for later this year, and the winners will be given a prize worth £1,000.
