One-metre social distancing from Friday and pubs may be able to provide 'an alcohol-only service' from 1 July, according to leaked letter

THE two-metre social distancing rule is to be cut to one metre on Friday, according to a leaked letter from a minister.

Restaurants and cafés will also be allowed to serve multiple household groups and individuals at a single table, providing there is one metre between them.

The current closing time of 10.45am will also be lifted, allowing the normal licensing regime to return, states the document.

The changes were detailed in a letter from Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham to a hospitality industry leader.

In the letter, the minister also says that if levels of Covid-19 remain low, pubs will be able to provide a seated alcohol-only service from 1 July. This will not apply to nightclubs.
